Dr. Sampson Akwafuo is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the California State University, Fullerton. He obtained his Ph.D and MS from the University of North Texas, Texas and Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK respectively.
Prof. Akwafuo is the Director of the Computational Epidemiology, Data and Disaster Intelligence (CEDDI) Lab. His research interests include Computational Epidemiology, Contagion Modelling, optimization of disasters and disease outbreaks' response logistics, and the development of approximation algorithms. His current focus is on using artificial intelligence and machine learning models to predict potential outbreaks of diseases in specific localities, modeling intervention strategies for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). He has previously served as a consultant to DFID, USAID, WB-Health programs and UNAIDS.
Dr. Akwafuo is the Faculty Advisor of the CSUF's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and a member of the Health Innovation Special Interest Group (HISIG) of NSBE. He currently serves as a Technical Program member of some ACM and IEEE conferences, as well as a Panelist with NSF. He is also an Editorial Member and Reviewer of some leading journals in the areas of Computer Science and Health Informatics. He supports and engages in activities that introduce minorities and women into STEM.
