About Sampson Akwafuo

Dr. Sampson Akwafuo is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the California State University, Fullerton. He obtained his Ph.D and MS from the University of North Texas, Texas and Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK respectively. 

Prof. Akwafuo is the Director of the Computational Epidemiology, Data and Disaster Intelligence (CEDDI) Lab. His research interests include Computational Epidemiology, Contagion Modelling, optimization of disasters and disease outbreaks' response logistics, and the development of approximation algorithms. His current focus is on using machine learning models to predict potential outbreaks of diseases in specific localities, modeling intervention strategies for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) in Sub-Saharan Africa, and other Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). He has previously served as a consultant to DFID, USAID, WB-Health programs and  UNAIDS.

Dr. Akwafuo is the Faculty Advisor of the CSUF's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and a member of the Health Innovation Special Interest Group (HISIG) of NSBE.  He is also a member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers -Computer Society (IEEE-CS). He supports and engages in activities that introduce minorities and women into STEM.
